GEORGE & HILLARY WHEELER

George and Hillary Wheeler – two old retired people! George, a retired builder, now makes houses for birds – but not any old house... constructed from recycled materials, pallets, offcuts, organ pipes etc – they can be churches, beach huts, ruined cottages, windmills, caravans... people collect them for their whimsical appeal and have been known to keep them on shelves in the house!

Hillary, a retired teacher – did a sampler for her first grandchild.  Friends asked, then friends of friends asked...so it spread. French, one colour pieces, were introduced – patterns made by the white spaces left behind. Lately, silly embroidered women have begun to feature!

Both would say they are influenced by American folk art and travels in Norway.
